DuPage - Sreamwood Park District

On this hot, 95 degree, partly cloudy, day, I found an opportunity to sneak in a couple hours of fishing and decided to try a few ponds in Streamwood that I'd never fished or seen before. I started off throwing a wacky worm and tried a few different colors without so much as a nibble. I noticed some fish striking at insects near the surface, so I changed up and started throwing a top water frog, with the same result. Just as I was about to give up on this spot, a very large bass swam through the shallows. I threw a wacky worm out in front of him, but still couldn't get a bite. Since the water was stained and very weedy, I decided to put on a weed less wacky jig. I then started trying every soft plastic in my bag, lizards, worms, tubes, but none of the cruising fish would even slow down to look at these baits.

I ended up putting on a June Bug Devil Spear by Havoc, and then I noticed a nice sized bass just hanging around in a clearing. I tossed the Devil Spear about 3 feet to the right of the fish, I saw the fish move slowly to the right, and then my line started moving toward deeper water. I set the hook, and the fight was on. A couple short minutes later, I had this guy on shore. This bass made my day.
