Date Of My Catch:05-17-2014
With work and the crappy weather, it had been close to a week since I had gotten out fishing so I was itching to get out once I got some yard work done today. I headed to a good sized pond in Aurora I had fished a few times in the past and was usually able to catch a couple bass.
I started out throwing a crankbait and quickly started catching a few small bass but I decided to switch it up and try a Berkley Havoc Pit Boss(Okeechobee Craw color) and fish some flooded cattails that were starting to grow nearby. After catching a few slightly larger fish on the Pit Boss I made a cast to a spot where there was an isolated patch of cattails growing a little further from shore. As I hopped my lure past the patch I noticed the cattails move. Then I felt a bump and could feel a fish had my lure. I set the hook and there was a big swirl as the bass tried to take off. Then an impressive jump, my heart was racing, I was sure this was the biggest bass I had hooked in Illinois. I was using heavy braid so I was able to keep the bass from wrapping me up and then steer it through an opening in the cattails and to shore. The bass measured at 21" and weighed in at 5 and 3/4 lb on my digital scale. It made my day!
