Category: Catch Of The Day Bass
Written by DuPage Angler Paul S
Finally shook the rust off at Braidwood on Thursday 3-28. It was very cold in the morning with temperatures in the low 30's. My buddy and I were struggling on the warm water side so we moved to some spots midlake where we had caught some fish in the past. After catching a small bass on an XCalibur XR 50, we moved to an area with a nice 10' ditch. After cranking the ditch to no avail, we started pitching the reeds. After a couple tentative bites that didn't hook up, I had a bass take my bait and streak out from the reeds. Solid hookset, flipped the bass in the boat, and landed my first decent bass of the year. We didn't measure the fish but we estimated it around 18" and 3 to 3.5 pounds. I was throwing a watermelon red, baby Brush Hog with a 3/16th sinker. Nothing the rest of the day nor did we ever see anyone catch anything. Read a report that another fella caught some decent fish on the warm water side throwing crankbaits in deeper water. We'll get 'em next time.

Great job Paul S. I need to try that lake. I have heard great things about it and keep telling myself to get out there, but this year it will happen. Nice write up too and thanks for sharing what you were using.

Nice COTD Paul! I haven't been to Braidwood in a very long time. It is now on my 2013 list.
