On Monday I went to Harrier lake in search of some bass. The day before I went to Walk on Water, so I had some monstrous 8 inch suckers left over. So I figured while I was out jigging, I would set up a couple tip-ups. Then 5 minutes after I set it up, FLAG!!! I raced over (but not running because if the fish hears me running he is likely to drop the bait), reeled in the slack and set the hook. It didn't take long to reel in my 17 inch bass by hand but it sure was fun. I like to rig my FrabillArctic Fire tip-up with 15lb. Ice braid, then use a Quick Strike Rig, to rig a big roach or sucker. And don’t forget, using your flasher to drop your bait down, it really helps it stay a couple feet off the bottom. Then, 30 minutes after that, I had another flag. I set the hook and squeezed my 18 inch toothy walleye threw the hole. A new personal record for walleye threw the ice. After that I caught another 3 pound bass on a tip-up but I was also catching a lot of 9-13 inch walleye and bass on a 1/8 oz. Custom Jigs and Spins Slender Spoon tipped with a minnow head. So next time you go ice fishing at a pond or small lake, don’t leave the tip-ups at home, you never know what you might catch.
