It has been quite a while since I have been out fishing for more than a lunch break. Yesterday I decided Labor Day was the day I was going to get up early and go out for a couple of hours. I woke up around 5:50 and headed out. I figured I would hit the three ponds in my subdivision this morning. I started off the morning fishing with a Live Target frog. I cast that around for a while with nothing happening. I switched to my favorite crank bait, The Egg. Nothing happening. I then switched to a spinner bait. I hooked up with one, but was not able to land. I cast that around for a while and nothing else happening. I even tried using Crabby Helgies. I was getting bites on the helgie, so I thought I found what they wanted. At one point, something grabbed the helgie made a strong run and then popped off. I am guessing it was a carp, by the way that thing took off. After that, nothing. I decided to switch spots. I started off with a spinner bait. Again, I was able to hook into a bass, but he jumped and spit the lure right back at me. I switched back to the helgie. I was thinking I would even be happy with some bluegills. By this time, I had some company. Two other guys came down and started fishing with me. Between the 3 of us, we threw everything with no luck. It was time to move on again. I grabbed a couple rods and my tackle bag and walked to a spot on the main pond. First cast with a spinner bait and I was able to actually hook up and land a bass. It was a small guy, but it still felt good to catch it. I went on and was able to catch 3 more all on the spinner bait. The hawg pictured below was the second one I caught and it happened to be the biggest of the day. This guy had a full belly and was probably in the 3.5-4 lb range.

Thanks guys! My ponds did pretty good this summer. I have not seen too many dead fish in them. I saw something dead and furry in the water yesterday. I could not tell if it was a muskrat or a female mallard. It had been there for a couple of days and I was not about to probe it to see exactly what it was. I see a lot of people fishing this main pond, so I am glad it is still producing some decent sized bass. Thanks again!

Way to go Chuck!!!

It's nice to get out any time you can but catching a good sized large mouth does make the day out even better!

Congrats!!!!
