DuPage Angler Targets Spillway

 MONSTER Bass!

DuPage Angler News Room - by DuPage Angler CSimon

I got out today as a last minute thing. My wife actually told me I could go out, so I did. I gave Wilks19 a call, but he was busy and could not make it out. I decided to hit my subdivision ponds. I hit the one pond and only caught one 14" bass. I went to the other side of the pond by the spillway and first cast with a Crabby Bass Annihilator grub, I nailed another 14" bass. I started throwing my Live Target lipless crank and I had a hit that was out of this world. I seriously thought I had a carp on my line. Drag was peeling out like crazy. I got it close to shore and realized it was a MONSTER BASS! After fighting it some more, I finally got it in to shore. There was another guy fishing by me and he had caught a bass and was trying to unhook it. I asked if he minded taking my picture. This guy about crapped his pants when he saw my bass. He was going nuts because it was so big. He was nice enough to snap some pictures for me:

I taped her at 22". I didn't get a girth measurement or a weight. I wanted to get her back in the water. There was a tail sticking out of her gullet too. Surprised she was still hungry enough to attack a crankbait with a fish tail in her throat. This is my new PB Largemouth Bass. Who would have thought I would catch my PB out of one of my subdivision ponds. I wound up catching a total of 6 bass today with both the Crabby Bass Annihilator grub and also the Live Target lipless crank. The next biggest bass was 17".

Wow! What a fish! It seems as though the fish are biting on almost anything and everything! My problem with the big ones I hook is that I am not setting the hook good enough. Does anyone have any good suggestions in how to successfully set my hook into these beasts?

CSimon, when I first saw that pic I thought "where have I seen that fish before?" Then I remembered.

This is where.

Wacky I got it! Let's make it happen this week or next at the latest. I'll PM you later today.

Thank you all for the kind words! I really appreciate it! It was a ton of fun to catch. I didn't realize there were fish that big in this pond. I now know there are. It was funny because I think the guy that took my pics was more pumped about the fish than I was. Don't get me wrong, I was super excited, but this guy was screaming and going nuts snapping pics with my camera and also his camera. LOL! It is not everyday you see a fish this big. It is my biggest. I wish I took more measurements so I had a guess at what the weight was. Oh well. Thanks again!

Patrick there are huge fish everywhere so far this season. Did you get your first DA Field Tester Kit OK? We should set up a time to go.

Holy Monster!!! I've gotta find some time in my schedule to get out on the water! I've only been out twice this year and only have a couple of dinks (and an unfortunate fish kill in one of my local ponds) to show for it.

Awesome fish!!

Beautiful just beautiful! There are so many different lures people are using to catch these beasts. I think it just depends on what kind of mood the fishies are in. Good job and thank you for sharing! I believe the Crabby Bass Lures are the new ones we are testing.
