DuPage Angler Reels In His First

Pig of The Season

DuPage Angler News Room - by DuPage DarkStar72

I was out fishing crappies with DuPage Angler Pondboy on a usual Saturday run. What wasn't usual was the bite; few were biting and none had bit my offerings. As we fished our last pond I was still skunked but the overwhelming theme of the day was I saw fish breaking the surface of the water which I finally identified as largemouth bass.

Well, here I was with a crappie minnow on one rod and waxies on another and no fish to show for it.

Figuring the bass were busting the surface for minnows I changed my setup on my spinning rod to a bass minnow which has a larger presentation. I cast to a spot that I thought I had a good chance of catching something in and waited, and waited, and waited but my float didn't move. Finally the bass splashing around made me reel in my two rods and get ready to fetch my casting gear from my car. Only one problem; my spinning reel felt heavy on the other end. A hook set later confirmed that I had a bass on my line!

I worked the fish slowly to the shore, lipped it, and admired her beauty! She's my biggest bass in my not-quite year of fishing with a 17.25" length and a 11" girth she calculates to between 2.8 and 3.5 pounds. Next time I'll have my scale with me but this time a picture was snapped and this beautiful bass was revived and released to grow bigger and maybe become my first five pounder! Thanks DuPage Angler and all the great people here who helped to get me up to speed and not only fishing but catching as quickly as possible!

I've only been fishing since July 4 of 2011. Last time before that date I fished was when I was 12 I think.

DuPage Angler, the people here, and the help they've given have made me the fisherman I am today.

Keep an open mind, ask questions, and you'll get answers that help and/or offers to help.

This is truly a special place to be for anyone wanting to learn how to catch as well as to fish!

That just means we'll have to go fishing! Heck, Saturday is shaping up to be pipe-bitetastic!

I know I'll be out somewhere!
